Legislative Committee

The legislative committee is chartered to review and recommend action concerning any legislation being considered by the Commonwealth of Virginia that has an impact on the search and rescue program.

  • HB 1348 - Search and Rescue Training and Response Program, and Search and Rescue Advisory Council; created.
     
  • SB 743 - Sales and use tax; tax exemption for volunteer fire departments and rescue squads. The definition of a volunteer fire department and rescue squad is contained in the code. Teams must meet those requirements. A SAR team by virtue of being a SAR team alone does not meet the requirements. Examples: the ASRC is a rescue squad (in Virginia) and Top of Virginia is part of a fire department, therefore they are eligible for the tax exemption.
